Abstract

In the third quarter of 2013, shipment volume of Taiwanese mobile phone branded vendors is anticipated to have reached about 4.39 million units in the third quarter of 2013, dipping 36.1% sequentially. This is mainly ascribed to the reduced sales of Taiwanese branded smartphones resulting from the rollouts of several international competitors' flagship models such as the Apple iPhone 5S/5C, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Sony Xperia Z1 and LG G2 in the third quarter of 2013. Looking at the development of Taiwanese branded vendors, HTC counted merely on its older model, New HTC One, in the first half of 2013. ASUS slightly upgraded its flagship model launched in the first half to release the New Padfone Infinity in the third quarter. Acer managed to release the world's first large screen-sized flagship model, dubbed Liquid 2S, which is capable of recording 4K videos. However, without strong brand image and global distribution channel deployment, the company's shipment volume did not grow as expected in the third quarter. Overall speaking, the gap between Taiwanese branded vendors and international brands in terms of product planning is enlarged.
